The History of Nobska Light Station
Established in 1828, the beaming beauty became the first lighthouse to shine on the confluence of Vineyard and Nantucket Sounds by the next year.
Then, fast forward to 1876, builders created the new keeper’s house along with a 40-foot tall cast-iron lighthouse tower! Nearly 30 years later, a second keeper’s house emerged.
The tower is legendary for being a great aid to sailors and was taken on by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1939.
But, by 2013, the building was no longer helpful to them as it required a long list of repairs. That’s when the Town of Falmouth and the Friends of Nobska Light took over to ensure the town’s pride and treasure could continue to shine for all to see!
