From Sea to Shining Sea
Do you recognize the famous line, “from sea to shining sea?” That’s right – Shining Sea Bikeway was named after the lyrics in the song, America the Beautiful! Fun fact – the writer of the iconic song, Katharine Lee Bates, was from Falmouth, MA!
The bike path follows along the route that was once a railroad that went from Buzzards Bay, through Falmouth, and to the Falmouth Station. Now, the path runs for more than 10 miles, leading to the Steamship Authority, just down the street from Treehouse Lodge!
Sights to See
You’ll see so many gorgeous views as you zoom through the winding path. Explore along the Vineyard Sound Shoreline, marshlands, rivers, and even cranberry bogs! The trail is level and maintained, so you shouldn’t have much resistance, making it a breeze!
One of the best places to take a little break, admire the ocean, or enjoy a picnic is just over eight miles into the trail. Surf Drive Beach is a beautiful spot and is accessible for swimming if you’d like to cool off and take a dip in the ocean!
If you’d like to know of a secret spot nthat ot many people know about, take a detour to Chappy Beach. It’s a beautiful beach where you might see kite surfers in the waves. Or, stop and grab a coffee at the West Falmouth Market!
