Things to See and Do at Highfield Hall and Gardens
The Estate
Highfield Hall History
The Beebe family built Highfield Hall in 1878 in the middle of pretty gardens, gorgeous trails, almost 700 acres of woodlands, and its adjoining mansion, Tanglewood.
In 1932, the estate went on to serve a variety of purposes with different owners. It became a health resort, a religious hotel, a stable, and a theatre.
After years of stories and memories made, the estate was saved from the wrecking ball in 1994. Now, visitors can admire the lovingly restored museum and colorful gardens.
Highfield Hall and Gardens Tours
You can tour the estate between May and October on the first and third Sundays of the month. For the gardeners out there, you can enjoy a whimsical garden tour during the spring, summer, and fall months.
The Gardens
Sunken Garden
The Sunken Garden is a colorful piece of the property that resembles the Beebe family’s original herbaceous garden. A landscape preservationist designed the garden to look similar to it by using knowledge of historic gardens and flowers.
West Garden
The West Garden is a beautiful mixture of shade and sun-loving plants. This is where Franklin Beebe would tend to his carnations!
Beebe Woods
Explore the walking trails and carriage roads as you stroll through the 387-acre greenery that is Beebe Woods. This quiet walk is a fairytale you must experience!
Beech Tree Path
Take this path to find the gorgeous Beech trees that were planted by the Beebe family!
Stickwork Sculpture
Discover a unique and monumental masterpiece when you visit Highfield Hall and Gardens. Step into a fairytale and admire Passing Fancy, a sculpture created by sculptor Patrick Dougherty and community volunteers. Make your way through the winding passages inside the artwork, and make sure to visit often because the sculpture will stand at Highfield Hall for just a few years!
In addition to the sculpture, the property also holds fascinating art exhibitions and a music garden with giant instruments!
